Treatment of MPNST is multidisciplinary, coordinated between nerve surgery, surgical oncology, radiation oncology, and medical oncology:
• Surgery — wide surgical removal of the tumor, often with affected nerves or surrounding tissue, is the mainstay of treatment
• Radiation therapy — used to reduce local recurrence or help manage symptoms
• Chemotherapy — used in select cases to treat or prevent metastatic disease
Early detection, accurate diagnosis, and a coordinated treatment plan are critical. Patients are typically followed closely with long-term surveillance imaging.
